Axis: The camera strap you never knew you needed

Axis: The camera strap you never knew you needed

I’m a simple creature. I don’t need much in life but every now and then something comes along that gets my pulse slightly elevated. When 3 Legged Thing got in touch asking me to take a look at their new product I was genuinely excited to have a play with it; not only because of a comedy video I had in mind but because I really liked the concept.

AXIS 44 Camera Strap

The main area of interest to me is the QD (Quick Disconnect) operation. Now don’t get confused by the name, it also connects quickly as well - it’s just the name of the connector. Used by NASA for strapping down cargo into space and beyond it’s a clever, yet simple design that locks into place at the push of a button. You can also find this on rifle slings as well. Attached to the provided camera plate at one end with your camera attached to the plate, you can either untether your camera quickly or just lift it up to your face to grab your next Nat Geo submission.

It’s very intuitive and one of the first things I tested was could I do it with my eyes closed? Yes, was the answer to that! But what if I press the button by accident, my camera will fall to its untimely death I hear you cry. No. The beauty about this is that the bracket that holds the connector naturally covers the button when there’s something attached.

The strap itself comes in a variety of styles and colours including as well as the camera plates that are available - I won’t go into this here as you’ll be able to see for yourself via the link at the bottom of this article - plenty of choice! The one I’ve got is the AXIS 44 Inferno as pictured here.

With all my might I’ve tested the build quality apart from resorting to using it as a car tow rope (although it’d probably do that if you found yourself in a fix!) - this strap is solid!

Now I know that you may be aware that I’m a 3 Legged Thing Pro Team member which brings about the subject of bias. Thing is, although my loyalty is second to none, if I genuinely didn’t like a product I wouldn’t be shouting from the rooftops about it.

I sincerely trust and rely upon their kit as a professional and it’s testament to their efforts that the kit speaks for itself in terms of build quality, reliability and performance; not to even mention how bloody amazing everyone is at the company!

So there you go - replace your useless camera strap with something reliable and amazingly advanced here:

Welcome To Earth

Welcome To Earth

Not a message for visiting aliens, ‘Welcome to Earth’ was a programme I worked on in 2019 with one William Smith in Tanzania. What seems like an eternity ago and delays on the release due to that Covid thing, it’s finally out and available for your viewing pleasure on Disney+ - here’s what I got up to…

Timelapse on a budget 01 - The Technaxx TX-164

If you’re after a camera that can create you a simple timelapse then this box of tricks may be the camera for you. I was sent this by the kind people at Technaxx asking in exchange a review. Coming in at £149 it’s certainly a budget camera for those looking to start out or keep it simple but will it deliver?

The Sunrise to sunrise challenge

The Sunrise to sunrise challenge

Those of you that have been following me for a while will know that I work some long hours - I’d even go as far as saying ridiculous hours. If any of my previous bosses had turned around and asked me to put in a 24hr shift I’d have told them where to go. My problem is is that I don’t consider what I do work which gets me in all sorts of sleep deprivation issues. That, however, is the only downside as the benefits to not working for a living far outweigh the negatives, as I thrust myself into a 24hr (ish) challenge…

Life, Unfurled

Life, Unfurled

Pain like I'd never felt before rippled through my body. It came in sharp bursts, entwined with many emotions. My heart had been ripped out and I was left in a dark place. The sudden death of my Mother in March last year has left me with many scars, the most visible being the onset of Vitiligo.

2018 was another crazy year here at timelapse towers and as usual, it’s time to round it up with some of my favourite shoots from the year! There’s also something special happening today…

The London Mastaba Timelapse

The London Mastaba Timelapse

If you follow my stories on instagram you’ll have seen I was in Hyde Park in London filming a very special (to me) and temporary art installation. But what of it, you ask? I’d like to take this opportunity to talk about inspiration.

Venice: How to work 82hrs in four days and survive

Venice: How to work 82hrs in four days and survive

I won't lie, the older I get the more it hurts but occasionally, and I mean very occasionally, I'll push the boat out and brave the storm.  There's more to life than work but when your work is your paid hobby, there's more life than work!

The Victoria Amazonica - How to Timelapse a Water Lily

Apart from the odd sunrise or sunset, I normally only get one shot at capturing each timelapse I undertake whilst shooting on location.  Unlike traditional filming, there's no 'cut' and start over from the director - there's often no director with me so I'm left to my own devices to get the shot in the can.  This task however, was a bit more of a rare occurance.  We're not talking solar eclipse rare; more of a couple of month's wait and by that time, I would have missed the transmission date anyway!
