I’m a simple creature. I don’t need much in life but every now and then something comes along that gets my pulse slightly elevated. When 3 Legged Thing got in touch asking me to take a look at their new product I was genuinely excited to have a play with it; not only because of a comedy video I had in mind but because I really liked the concept.
The main area of interest to me is the QD (Quick Disconnect) operation. Now don’t get confused by the name, it also connects quickly as well - it’s just the name of the connector. Used by NASA for strapping down cargo into space and beyond it’s a clever, yet simple design that locks into place at the push of a button. You can also find this on rifle slings as well. Attached to the provided camera plate at one end with your camera attached to the plate, you can either untether your camera quickly or just lift it up to your face to grab your next Nat Geo submission.
It’s very intuitive and one of the first things I tested was could I do it with my eyes closed? Yes, was the answer to that! But what if I press the button by accident, my camera will fall to its untimely death I hear you cry. No. The beauty about this is that the bracket that holds the connector naturally covers the button when there’s something attached.
The strap itself comes in a variety of styles and colours including as well as the camera plates that are available - I won’t go into this here as you’ll be able to see for yourself via the link at the bottom of this article - plenty of choice! The one I’ve got is the AXIS 44 Inferno as pictured here.
With all my might I’ve tested the build quality apart from resorting to using it as a car tow rope (although it’d probably do that if you found yourself in a fix!) - this strap is solid!
Now I know that you may be aware that I’m a 3 Legged Thing Pro Team member which brings about the subject of bias. Thing is, although my loyalty is second to none, if I genuinely didn’t like a product I wouldn’t be shouting from the rooftops about it.
I sincerely trust and rely upon their kit as a professional and it’s testament to their efforts that the kit speaks for itself in terms of build quality, reliability and performance; not to even mention how bloody amazing everyone is at the company!
So there you go - replace your useless camera strap with something reliable and amazingly advanced here:
